No compensation / rate uplift for contractors now having to pick up the Employer’s NIC, apprenticeship levy and Umbrella company charges. They are resigned to using companies like TCS as a body shop. Needless to say I turned the role down.

Flat out PSC ban without any assessment

The whole affair was handled in a cloak and dagger fashion. Very little in the way of written communications, most instructions verbal and at times contradictory hence plausibly deniable. Eventually given the option to pay for an ‘independent’ assessment by a nominated organisation or go through a PAYE/Umbrella structure via a nominated organisation. The whole arrangement is shady. Massive potential for cowboy operations and surreptitious horse trading vis the loan charge scandal. Significant portion of the workload has been off-shored including my projects. Work now being conducted by semi-skilled, English as a second language, consultancy staff. A lower cost and questionable quality alternative. Time will ultimately flush out the issues but by then the instigators will be promoted away from their catastrophically short sighted decisions. Bad for the flexible workforce, bad for Quality and ultimately bad for UK plc.

No guidance, no comms and a recipe for contractors going elsewhere or perm.
