Agency

Adecco

Umbrella company FairScore 0+
giant group

They were quick to deal with my registration

I had a last minute offer on a Friday to start on the Monday and Giant got everything set up and signed with my agency within 2 hours. I would especially like to thank Charlie who was fantastic and knowledgable - she made me a priority and helped me at every step.

IR35 fairly assessed
Told informally by Adecco that 80% of contractors are outside IR35. My own case has been adjudged outside - and that new working arrangements with MBO. Not clear how this works. We are working on a defined scope project with a SoW.

Outside IR35 banned
Very disappointed by selfridges' blanket ban considering the nature of the projects and expertise required. Communication was brief and only via the recruitment agencies. Don't believe it would have been difficult for them to do individual assessments.

Cisco
IR35 fairly assessed
Seems that Cisco (via MBO) are doing a fair assessment. They are considering working practices and looking at the contract situation. They do not use CEST - and the guy I spoke to - dissed it. Some contractors are clearly inside IR35 but a good number working on SoW projects are pushing towards outside. Not a final answer but certainly a promising start. They also seem to be trying to keep 'marginal' contractors outside by modifying working practices. Contractors will know end Feb of the assessment. If found outside IR35 there is a 'defense file' to demonstrate compliance so quite a good outcome if you are placed outside.

Notified today: Selfridges joining the ban on contractors, "Selfridges have announced their IR35 plans and how they intend to employ all contractors following the change in legislation. As of March 23rd all contractors will be engaged on a PAYE contract (only – no umbrella) through Adecco or your supplying agency. Adecco will be serving the 4 week notice on all current umbrella and Ltd company contracts (that run past the 22nd March) on the 21st February" Does suck, and a massive error on Selfridges part as they rely on contractor skills to deliver projects.
